Forza Horizon 4 Will Be Removed From Sale In December

It’s becoming a familiar story of our favourite racing games being removed from sale in this digital era we live in, but the latest victim hits especially hard. Microsoft has confirmed that Forza Horizon 4 will soon be delisted and unavailable for digital purchase.

Specifically, 15 December will be the day the UK-based game will be removed from storefronts including the Xbox Store and Steam for those on PC, by which point the title will have been on sale for just a little over six years.

‘Licensing and agreements’ have been cited as the reason, which is the usual death knell for racing games, so it comes as no surprise. More imminent though is the delisting of downloadable content for the game, which will begin to be removed from today, 25 June.

That means if you don’t already have any DLC, your only way to purchase it will be through the Deluxe edition of the game which includes the car pass or the Ultimate edition which adds both the Fortune Island and Lego expansions to the game.

Those playing through Game Pass will be out of luck unless you’ve bought any DLC separately. In this case, you’ll be gifted a ‘game token’ which will allow you to obtain a digital copy of the game before its removal from storefronts.

For now, it seems the games’ servers will remain online so it will continue to be playable beyond it becoming unavailable for purchase. However, there will be one last series – Series 77 – which will mark the end of the weekly updated Festival Playlists on 22 August. That also means achievements tied to the Playlists will become unattainable, so act fast if you’re missing any.

If you haven’t played Forza Horizon 4 by this point, you definitely should. Before it’s removed from sale, Microsoft has confirmed it’ll be discounted over the coming months. Spoiler alert, but we named it as our favourite title in the whole series.
