Forza Horizon 6: Everything We Know So Far

The long, painful wait for information on Forza Horizon 6 is finally over. At the 2025 Tokyo Game Show, nearly four years after the last entry in the series was released, we finally got confirmation that the game is on the way in 2026.

Better yet, the Horizon Festival is heading to easily the franchise’s most requested location: Japan. Here’s everything we know so far about Forza Horizon 6.

When will Forza Horizon 6 be released?Right now, 2026 is all we know. We can make an informed guess, though. Every previous Horizon title has been released in the autumn, with dates ranging from late September to early November, so there’s no reason to think that’ll change for Horizon 6. Quite the opposite, in fact, because an autumn launch would put the game at less risk of having sales cannibalised by the absolute gaming behemoth that is Grand Theft Auto VI, currently set for release on 26 May 2026.

What locations will Forza Horizon 6 feature? Mount Fuji in Forza Horizon 6

The Horizon games’ maps have always had a ā€˜greatest hits’ approach to the countries they’re set in, rather than going down the Test Drive Unlimited route of recreating an area in 1:1 scale (trust us, it takes aĀ lotĀ longer to drive from Edinburgh to the Cotswolds in real life than in Horizon 4).

We can expect the same for Horizon 6’s Japan setting. The one teaser trailer we’ve had so far gives us a glimpse at the country’s most famous sight of all, Mount Fuji, complete with a bridge over a lake in the foreground. Eagle-eyed fans, like those at Traxion, have already identified this as Lake Kawaguchi, just to the north of the iconic mountain, or at least a location heavily based on it.

Expect scenes like this in FH6’s Tokyo

Elsewhere, in an Xbox Wire preview, Playground Games art director Don Arceta revealed that Tokyo will be included in the game, almost certainly serving as a hub city in the same way as Edinburgh in FH4 and Guanajuato in FH5. It’s promised that Tokyo will be one of the ā€œmost detailed and layered environmentsā€ featured in a Horizon game, and Arceta explains that the city’s network of elevated expressways will be recreated to some extent. Sounds like some serious Tokyo Xtreme Racer vibes could be incoming.

With our fan theory hats on, we’d also like to suggest – or at least hope – that the recently remodelled Fujimi Kaido from Forza Motorsport might be integrated into Horizon 6’s open world. If nothing else, it’d be a nice nod to the series that spawned Horizon but that now seems to have been flattened, at least in part by the spin-off’s success.

What else do we know about the setting?Horizon 6 will retain the seasons mechanic introduced in Horizon 4, meaning we’ll see the game’s world change throughout the ā€˜year’. This should be particularly spectacular in Japan, with the country’s famous cherry blossom erupting into colour in the spring, its forests displaying vivid autumn shades, and its snow-covered wintry mountains.

Also noteworthy is that Playground Games has worked with a cultural consultant, Kyoko Yamashita, to ensure that the game’s condensed depiction of Japan is as authentic as possible, right down to its ambient soundscapes.

What cars will Forza Horizon 6 feature? Forza Horizon 5’s JDM Jewels car pack

At this point, we don’t have confirmation of any of the car list (although we’re taking bets on the identity of the car we hear firing up at the end of the teaser trailer). It’ll almost definitely feature the sort of expansive and diverse roster we’ve come to expect from the Horizon franchise, though.Ā

Particularly from the Australia-set third game onwards, the Horizon titles have made a point of including cars rooted in their settings’ automotive industries and cultures. Japan, of course, has an extremely rich seam to tap in this regard, so expect lots of JDM legends as well as obscurities. Arceta makes mention of the particular cult followings around kei cars, vans and drifting.

Will Forza Horizon 6 be on PS5?Horizon 6 will launch on Xbox Series S and X, as well as PC. From day one, it’ll be available on Game Pass and Game Pass Ultimate as well as a standalone title, and it’ll launch on Steam too.

At an unspecified ā€˜post-launch’ date, it’ll follow in the footsteps of Horizon 5 and launch on PlayStation 5 too, with the port this time being handled in-house by Forza developers Playground Games and Turn 10 Studios rather than outsourced to Panic Button, as the FH5 one was. Hopefully, there won’t be another three-and-a-half-year wait between the game’s launch and its arrival on PS5…

When will we hear more?So far, all we’ve seen and heard of Horizon 6 is the short teaser trailer and the details given in the Xbox Wire story. It looks as though that’ll remain the case for the rest of 2025, with more info – including gameplay footage – coming early next year.
