We are quickly approaching the final hours of MSI 2024, and what a tournament it has been already. While today looked set up to be a banger series, it has a lot to contend with. We saw T1 just yesterday look a little off the boil against a defiant TL side. While Europe’s last hope, G2 Esports put on a commanding performance against Top Esports to set themselves up for a rematch against T1.

Now, GEN and BLG take to the Rift, with both sides showing signs that they have kinks in their armor. BLG had a close series against PSG earlier at MSI, and T1 took them to four games in the last round. Similarly, GEN hasn’t had it all their own way, either. While they easily took down Fnatic, Top Esports took them to five games in the previous round. With a place in the Grand Final up for grabs, it’s the perfect time for one of these two sides to show what they are made of.

Gen.G VS Bilibili Gaming MSI 2024 Recap

Game 1
First blood is secured by by BLG on the bottom side of the map, but GEN were able to trade it back quickly up on the top side. Blow for blow carries on in the bottom lane, but this time it’s GEN that came out on top 2 for 1. BLG did manage to secure multiple plates on the top side, however, as the gold remained close. GEN picked up the first Dragon, with BLG not keen to challenge them. The early to mid-game saw the game in favor of GEN, but only just as they held a 1k lead at 18 minutes.

Just like that, however, BLG turned on the style, chasing GEN out of the river and picking up three kills. BLG maintained the momentum, not giving GEN an inch once they’d taken a lead. They wiped GEN off the map to claim their third Drake and a Baron. BLG’s lead grew as they claimed the fourth drake, leaving GEN with very few ways back into this first game.

With the hextech secured by BLG, GEN tried a hail-mary but it wasn’t to be as they lost two members and gave up a second Baron. GEN finally had an opportunity to take a fight against BLG, and while the setup was perfect they lacked the killer touch to win the fight. BLG turned it around and secured a big first game lead in the series.

Game 2

First blood is secured in Game 2 by GEN as they look to get a point of the scoreboard. BLG found a kill back later, but it was their next play on the botlane that would undo them. Diving into GEN they handed over three kills for nothing in return as GEN cement a 2k lead early on. What BLG did so well in Game 1, is not working in Game 2 as GEN shut down so many of the BLG lines of attack. With 16 minutes on the clock, GEN had a 3k lead.

GEN were able to secure the first Baron of the game with BLG unable to contest the objective. BLG found a huge engage in the mid-lane later on, but GEN were able to turn it around while Kiin was in the BLG base ending the game. GEN won the fight, and with Kiin already in the base BLG was left with a wide-open base at 26 minutes.

GEN waiting a little longer, but with less than 30 minutes on the clock, GEN won the next fight and closed out Game 2.

Game 3

GEN had clearly drafted the better team and boy did it show early on. GEN smashed the BLG bottom side early, claiming first blood with the help of their jungle. GEN had a 3k lead with only 10 minutes on the clock. GEN settled into their lead in the next 5 minutes, maintaining the 3k lead as BLG look in a losing situation.

As Baron appeared on the Rift, BLG won a huge fight and managed to turn it into a crucial Baron. But with GEN able to get back to the fight, they picked of four members of BLG on the retreat as the play goes in the favor of GEN in the end. BLG tried it again in the mid lane, but once again GEN were too far ahead as they wiped BLG off the map to put them in a commanding position to claim a second game. GEN were too far ahead and BLG just couldn’t do anything to stop them.

GEN move to series point, and BLG had a lot to do to remain in this series.

Game 4

BLG secured the first blood, as they look to take us to the full five games in this series. While GEN found a way back, BLG remained slightly ahead in the early game, crucially securing two early Drakes. With 15 minutes on the clock, the game is scrappy, with BLG keen not to get pushed into the lower bracket just yet.

In classic fashion, as soon as we hit enter on that last sentence GEN came alive, stealing the Drake and taking down two members of BLG. With that momentum, them took down another member of BLG and broke open the mid-lane. The chaos continues, with the next Drake being as chaotic as the last. While BLG might have won the fight, the respawns for GEN meant they still managed to claim the Drake.  Another objective, and it’s another fight win for GEN as BLG crumbled under the game 4 pressure. While Baron remained on the map, GEN looked to reset and move to secure the Drake.

The Baron fight is started up once again, but this time it was BLG who took the early lead, taking down three members of GEN, losing just two in return. With the Soul Drake on the map for BLG, that was the next fight, but it started poorly for BLG. GEN were able to force it down without any deaths, as BLG pulled out of the fight. The Baron fight was once again the objective, both sides went blow for blow, but it was GEN once again that had the best of the fight as BLG crumbled once again when it mattered most. GEN survive with four members alive as they moved to secure the Baron.

With Baron, GEN pushed into the base of BLG, and despite their best efforts BLG couldn’t do enough to stop them as GEN won the series.
