Genshin Impact and Honkai: Star Rail maker HoYoverse is on top of the world right now, and it’s releasing new games at a steady pace.
Long-time fans will note two new titles were revealed recently: the Animal Crossing-inspired Petit Planet (which is currently in beta) and the creature collecting auto-chess battle Honkai: Nexus Anima.
But it’s also quietly looking to the future with a more realistic project, powered by Unreal Engine 5.
The game doesn’t have a name yet, but a short concept video was spotted by ResetEra on a recruitment website.
The project lists a series of buzzwords: MMO, PvP, open world, and even AI. It sounds like the studio may potentially be using some form of generative AI to help build the world, but this is all speculation based on vague translated information.
To be honest, we wouldn’t expect this to release for years – although it is interesting that it seems to be experimenting with a title that doesn’t have its distinctive anime art style.
We suppose, no matter how popular anime is right now, that’s always going to be a roadblock for some, so it makes sense to offer something a little different visually.
For those of you worried about the references to AI, the Chinese dev has said previously that it’ll never use the technology for art or voice acting, so its artistic integrity will hopefully remain intact.
Obviously we’ll update you when more is announced about this particular project, but we wouldn’t expect to hear anything until deep into the PS6 generation – or perhaps even beyond.
