George Finidi’s audition: Super Eagles’ interim coach faces difficult test in two matches, future hangs on outcome

Former Ajax FC star George Finidi faces a pivotal moment that could shape his future as the potential permanent coach of the Super Eagles, according to Soccernet.ng.

The 52-year-old, who currently manages Nigeria Premier Football League champions Enyimba FC, will have an opportunity to showcase his coaching abilities in the upcoming international friendly matches against Ghana and Mali.

The historic rivalry between the Super Eagles of Nigeria and the Black Stars of Ghana will resume in Marrakech, Morocco on Friday, March 22nd, providing a challenging test for Finidi, who will also take on additional roles as head coach and fitness trainer, alongside serving as his own assistant coach and goalkeeper trainer due to limited staffing.

With key players like Tyronne Ebuehi, Victor Osimhen, Taiwo Awoniyi, and Gabriel Osho sidelined due to injury, Finidi will need to navigate these matches with a depleted squad.

If Finidi delivers promising results in these two matches, Soccernet.ng understands that the NFF technical committee will convene to consider recommending him for the top coaching position with the Super Eagles.

Multiple reports from Nigerian media outlets indicate that Finidi is one of six local-based coaches shortlisted for the role previously held by Jose Peseiro.
