Georgian Labor Union Accuses Government of Collusion with Evolution

In a sudden escalation of tensions, Georgian trade union Labor has accused government representatives of working alongside Evolution Georgia, a subsidiary of the global gambling technology giant. They allege the company is pursuing various avenues to force the protesters to end their strike. However, Labor remains adamant in its stance despite rising pressure.

Strikers Allege Foul Play

A recent social media post by Labor claims that Evolution Georgia is collaborating with the State Security Services (SSU) to destabilize the strike by spreading misinformation and pressuring individual strikers to abandon the movement. The union released a public statement alleging that the government was actively protecting Evolution’s interests despite evidence of the company’s repeated violations of Georgian labor laws.

The union warned of possible provocations and punitive measures against strike organizers, calling on international observers to closely monitor events. According to Labor, Evolution was exploring all possible avenues to force the movement’s leaders to declare the strike over, calculating that such a move would lead to the rest of the workers falling in line.

The government is protecting Evolution, and they demand the cessation of the strike and the forcing of the strike organizers to declare the strike over!

The movement has also called on the Georgian Confederation of Trade Unions to address provocative actions by some of its associated individuals, imploring the organization to show solidarity with the protests. Despite this reported escalation, Labor appears unshaken. The union reiterated its intention to withstand any attacks, expressing gratitude for the support of colleagues and members. 

No Resolution Is in Sight

The ongoing workers’ strike started in July, quickly growing into one of the biggest labor movements in Georgia’s recent history, focusing on grievances such as working conditions, wages, and treatment by the company management. The strike has mobilized hundreds of workers, some even resorting to hunger strikes to emphasize their demands.

Evolution’s head of investor relations, Carl Linton, denied the allegations, maintaining that the company fully complied with Georgian labor laws. He dismissed claims that the strike is the longest in the country’s history but acknowledged the disruptions caused by the workers’ actions. Linton noted that Evolution maintains active discussions with relevant government officials and community stakeholders to resolve this issue.

Labor’s accusations against the Georgian government add a layer of political complexity to the strike. Critics say the alleged government interference reflects broader concerns about the influence of multinational corporations in Georgia and the erosion of labor rights.
