Ghanaian teenagers Prince Amoako Junior and Caleb Yirenkyi ranked among world’s best U20 players by CIES

Ghanaian teenagers Prince Amoako Junior and Caleb Yirenkyi have been ranked among the world’s top-performing U20 players by the International Centre for Sports Studies (CIES) Football Observatory.

Amoako Junior was placed fourth globally among forwards in Europe’s non-big five leagues, while his FC Nordsjaelland teammate Yirenkyi also secured fourth place in the midfielders’ category.

The recognition comes on the back of their impressive start to the season at senior level for FC Nordsjaelland.

Amoako Junior, 18, has been in fine form, scoring three goals and providing one assist in just seven matches. Yirenkyi, meanwhile, has also enjoyed a meteoric rise, making his senior debut for Ghana’s Black Stars and contributing one goal and two assists for the Danish club.

Both players are products of Ghana’s renowned Right to Dream Academy and have quickly established themselves as key figures in the Danish Superliga.

Their outstanding performances have also earned them nominations for the Young Player of the Month award for August.

Amoako Junior will be competing against Yirenkyi for the honour, alongside fellow Ghanaian Bismarck Edjeodji (Vejle Boldklub), Thomas Jorgensen (Viborg), Clement Bischoff (formerly Brøndby IF, now with Red Bull Salzburg), and Hjalte Bidstrup (Viborg).
