Gianluca Busio, Kristoffer Lund both score in Serie B return
A pair of American players found the back of the net on Monday in their return to Serie B play.
Gianluca Busio and Kristoffer Lund both celebrated goals for their respective clubs despite suffering defeats in league play Monday. Busio played 71 minutes in Venezia’s 3-2 loss to Reggiana while Lund went the distance in Palermo’s 4-3 defeat to Pisa.
Busio’s 20th minute finished boosted Venezia in front before Joel Pahjanpalo doubled the hosts lead only 13 minutes later. However, Reggiana would fight back and walk away with all three points on the road.
Manolo Portanova, an Giorgio Altare own goal, and Edoardo Pieragnolo all hit back for Reggiana to give them a shock win.
Busio was substituted off in the 71st minute while fellow U.S. men’s national team midfielder Tanner Tessmann played 90 minutes.
Third-place Venezia next visits Ascoli on Sunday, April 7 seeking a bounce-back result. Venezia sits one point back of second-place Como heading into its final six matches of the season.
Kristoffer Lund and Palermo were also on the losing end of things on Monday.
Lund scored in the 42nd minute for the visitors, but Pisa scored four goals in the second half to claim a 4-3 result. The USMNT left back’s top-shelf finished doubled Palermo’s lead before halftime, giving him his second goal of the season.
However, Pisa would rally back to move one point out of the promotion playoffs.
Lund, 21, led all players in tackles completed (3) and duels won (8).
Palermo are nine points clear of ninth-place Pisa and next host Sampdoria on Saturday, April 6.
