Giannis scores 35 points but Bucks lose, Thompson stars as Warriors beat Jazz

Milwaukee Bucks’ Giannis Antetokounmpo scored 35 points on Thursday night, but it was not enough as they fell to a 113-110 defeat to the Memphis Grizzlies.

After heading into the half-time break with the score tied, the Bucks trailed for the majority of the second half before Antetokounmpo went on a six-point run late in the fourth quarter.

However, with just under three minutes left, the Grizzlies regained the lead and the Bucks could not recover.

Antetokounmpo produced a 43rd double-double of the season with 35 points and 12 assists, while converting 15 of his 17 shots from the field, but it was not enough to seal victory for the Bucks.

It is a second straight defeat for the Bucks, who lost to the Miami Heat on Wednesday and now hold a 3-7 record in their last 10 matches.

The Grizzlies’ Ziaire Williams, who scored 27 points as did GG Jackson, said after the win: “It feels good, proud of this team. We’ve been fighting our (tails) off every game. It’s good to see.

“One man falls down, and another one steps up. We’re just having fun.”

Bucks coach Doc Rivers was far from happy with the performance of his team.

He said: “We had some guys here, and some guys in Cabo [Mexican beach destination].”

Klay Thompson came off the bench to score a season-high 35 points as the Golden State Warriors beat the Utah Jazz 140-137 on Thursday night.

Thompson was a reserve for the first time since 2012 and converted seven three-pointers on a memorable night for the 34-year-old.

“You can do two things: You can pout or you can go out there and respond,” he said after the match.

“I thought I did the latter very well tonight.”

Coach Steve Kerr was impressed with Thompson, who had been averaging just 17 points this season.

“It’s been a tricky season for him and for us,” said Kerr, who earned his 500th victory as Golden State’s coach.

“It’s not as easy to do what Klay did five or six years ago for him. I think this could be a good balance to get the best out of Klay and to get the best out of our team.

“He’s just such a competitor. I’ve watched him win championships. I’ve seen him hit a million big shots. I’ve seen him guard the toughest guys in the league. Klay’s a champion. He’s an incredible player, great person.”

Anthony Edwards scored 34 points as the Minnesota Timberwolves beat the Portland Trail Blazers 128-91.

Edwards continued his fine form having scored 41 points in a 121-109 victory on Tuesday in the two-game series. On Thursday, he made 12 of 21 shots and had seven assists and six rebounds.

For the Trail Blazers, the result meant a sixth straight loss.
