Glasgow Rangers will struggle without Cyriel Dessers – Football expert

Sky Sports and Talksports Presenter, Dan Bardell, has hinted that Rangers will struggle without Super Eagles striker, Cyriel Kolawole Dessers, Soccernet.ng reports.

The 29-year-old joined The Gers on a four-year contract from relegated Italian side, Cremonese for a fee of around €5m but struggled initially, until the Scottish Record Champions appointed Philippe Clement as their coach.

The former Genk striker eventually ended the season with 22 goals and nine assists in 54 games, his best career output so far, even though Rangers missed out on the domestic double to their bitter rivals, Celtic.

Life in Glasgow wasn’t rosy for Dessers, as he constantly came under fire from the rangers fans and the Scottish media for the chances he missed, and after just one season, has set sights on leaving the club.

Soccernet.ng earlier reported that the Belgium-born Nigerian striker has handed in a transfer request to Rangers amidst interest from William Troost-Ekong’s Paok Thessaloniki.

While it is looking increasingly likely that his future lies away from away from Scotland, Sky Sports Football expert, Dan Bardell revealed Rangers stand a huge risk if they let the experienced striker off the hook.

“It’s always a risk letting a player go who has already proven that they can score goals and replacing them. I don’t think Rangers can lose many more goals from their side, but with Dessers leaving, they would lose a large proportion. When signing a new forward, there’s no guarantee it will work out better than him. Rangers must be careful because goalscorers come at a premium, and every club is looking for a number nine. The number nine market is harder than it’s probably ever been, so it is a risk for Rangers. If they bring someone new in, they’ve got to get it right, Bardell said in an interview with Ibrox News.

Should Dessers leave, Danilo will be left as the only striker at the club, but cannot be trusted for the entire campaign as he spent the majority of last season injured.
