Government not committed to addressing challenges in basic education – Kofi Asare

The Executive Director of Africa Education Watch, Kofi Asare, has expressed concern over the government’s handling of the basic educational sector.

He stated that the government is not dedicated to addressing the challenges confronting the basic education sector.

Mr Asare bases his assessment on the minimal resource allocation for the sector outlined in the 2024 budget.

According to him, the government has not exhibited the necessary enthusiasm and dedication required to ensure the strength and resilience of the country’s basic education sector.

During an interview on Joy FM’s Super Morning Show, on Wednesday, January 3, Mr. Asare urged the government and the Ministry of Education to actively address the issues at hand.

“Looking at the position of the budget and the resources allocation per the appropriation by Parliament, I don’t see any significant occurrences within the basic education sub-sector due to the resources allocation and I don’t see any real commitment towards addressing the most fundamental issues in basic education which is the infrastructure gap.”
