Early sales & players numbers are in

Microsoft’s latest first-party release, Grounded 2, launched at the back end of July on Xbox and PC — including Game Pass — and the early signs are suggesting that it’s been a successful Early Access launch for Obsidian & co.

First off, as pointed out by Klobrille, the game has infiltrated the top 10 most-played games list on Xbox – currently sitting at number 9 in the US and number 10 here in the UK. Of course, Game Pass will have contributed heavily to this early success for Grounded 2 on Xbox.

Heading over to Alinea Analytics, the firm has provided some extra context and statistics on how Grounded 2 is doing so far. First off, it also cracked the top 10 downloads across Xbox, PlayStation and Steam (it isn’t even out on PS5, either) – coming in at number 10 with 1.9m downloads in the first three days, according to Alinea figures. In the case of Steam specifically, the firm also says that Grounded 2 has sold 600,000 copies over there to date – which is said to be 1.25x more than the first Grounded in the same time frame.

All of this points towards a pretty successful Early Access launch for Grounded 2, which is great news for the folks over at Obsidian. The game’s announcement and subsequent release felt like a fairly low-key affair for Xbox, but this one should grow steadily over time – as the team brings in new features and eventually builds towards its full 1.0 launch further down the line.
