Gunnaās former attorney speaks out about the persistence of accusations that his client was a snitch: āGet over it. āNuff said.āAttorney Steve Sadow, who served as co-lead counsel for rapper Gunna, has spoken out about the rampant public outrage toward his former client. Gunna was released from custody in December 2022 after previously being arrested in Georgia as part of the overarching YSL RICO case.
āGunna did NOT cooperate, and did NOTHING and said NOTHING to cause harm to [Young Thugās] case,ā wrote Sadow in a post on X/the former Twitter. āHe spent eight months in jail and was released in December 2022 after entering an Alford plea. Gunnaās plea could not and was not used at Young Thugās trial, and he was never even named as a witness. He received a five-year suspended sentence, with no reporting, no travel restrictions, no living restrictions, and NO PROBATION.ā
āOver the last two years, from media reports, he has performed all over the world, achieved international fame and recognition, and earned millions of dollars. Conversely, Young Thug went to trial and eventually pled guilty and [no contest] after spending 30 months in jail, received 15 years probation, with reporting conditions and is not even allowed to live in Atlanta. Those that have and continue to bad mouth Gunna, get over it. āNuff said,ā Sadow concluded.
He added in a follow-up post that both Gunna and Young Thug were initially facing the same potential sentence in connections with the same RICO allegations. āRegardless, Iām more than willing to accept the blame for the great deal,ā he quipped.Gunna opted for an Alford plea ā which allows for an individual to maintain their innocence ā allowing him to receive a time-served suspended sentence. The rapper, whose real name is Sergio Giavanni Kitchens, released a statement at the time that he did not cooperate with authorities and did not agree to testify, as part of his plea deal.
Young Thug took a plea deal in the case last October, which led to his release. According to Eric Haney, the chief policy officer at REFORM Alliance, Young Thug had a team of āphenomenal lawyers,ā who were instrumental in securing his freedom. Nevertheless, the āspecial conditionsā of Young Thugās probation include that he must steer clear of the Atlanta metropolitan area for the next ten years.
