Gustav Iden returns to racing at Ironman 70.3 Mallorca
Approximately 80 professional triathletes are slated to take part in the first European destination for the Ironman Pro Series, in Alcúdia-Mallorca on Saturday 11 May. With two IM Pro Series races already in the books, and the IM 70.3 North American Championship St. George triathlon occurring this weekend, excitement is building as professional triathletes look to accrue early season points and event prize money.
The deep professional field in Mallorca will see the return of 2022 IM World Champion, Gustav Iden (NOR), as he makes his Pro Series debut. Iden will be challenged by Jan Stratmann (DEU) who comes hot off a 2nd place finish at the inaugural Ironman 70.3 Valencia just a few weeks ago and Patrick Lange (DEU), who has already raced two IM Pro Series races, and presently sits atop the IM Pro Series standings. Paul Schuster (DEU) will also make a return to the Ironman Pro Series to build upon his current 8th place position.
Also making their IM Pro Series debut among a star-stacked male field will be Mathis Margirier (FRA), Youri Keulen (NED), Cameron Wurf (AUS), Gregory Barnaby (ITA), Arnaud Guilloux (FRA) and Bradley Weiss (ZAF). With every second behind the race winner equating to a point earned or lost, athletes know Every Second Matters in order to maximise their standings.
In the women’s field, Emma Pallant-Browne, who is currently ranked 18th in the IM Pro Series standings, with a total of 1846 points, will be wearing bib number one. Pallant-Browne won the race back in 2022 so no doubt will be looking to repeat history and clinch the full 2,500 points available.
Looking to chase down Pallant-Browne will be Laura Philipp (DEU) who comes off a fourth-place finish at Ironman 70.3 Valencia, as well as Giorgia Priorone (ITA), Ruth Astle (GBR) and Lizzie Rayner (GBR), all of whom are making their IM Pro Series debut.
