For context, Blanchard is less than a year out of prison for her role in Dee Dee Blanchard‘s killing. In June 2015, Gypsy’s then-boyfriend Nicholas Godejohn stabbed Dee Dee to death after plotting it with Rose. By then, Dee Dee had subjected Gypsy Rose to years of medical procedures for illnesses she did not have. Rose waited in the bathroom while Nick murdered her mother in the next room. Ultimately, she served eight years of her 10-year sentence for the death and was released in December 2023.

When Rose got out, she was already married to Ryan Anderson, but in March of this year, she announced their separation. Days after the announcement, Gypsy was spotted on a friendly New Orleans outing with her ex-fiancé Ken Urker. Things between them quickly escalated from matching husky tattoos to dating amid her divorce to her and Ken becoming pregnant with their first child, a daughter.

Rose Explains How She’ll Talk To Her Daughter About Grandma’s Absence
As for explaining her mother’s death, Gypsy Rose opened up on the topic during an appearance on the ‘The Viall Files’ podcast on Oct. 16. She admitted that she occasionally thinks about “what could have been” regarding a relationship between her mom and her child. “…For me, it is heartbreaking…,” she said. Additionally, Rose said her stepmother, Kristy Blanchard, will be her daughter’s grandmother.

“So, I kind of put that in the back of my mind. And so, I mean, there has been questions on social media. Everybody asked the question, you know, ‘What are you gonna tell your daughter whenever grandma isn’t around?’ My response to them is that Kristy has become more of a mother to me than my own mother was,” Rose said.

Gypsy Rose didn’t share at what age she’d explain what happened to Dee Dee to her daughter. However, she said the conversation would happen with Ken Urker, her dad, and stepmother present.

“We’re going to explain things in a way that’s not overwhelming, but enough so she understand where my life was at that time and how did I get there. Because obviously I didn’t get there overnight,” Rose said.

Furthermore, Rose said that her daughter will be able to “read [what happened] for herself,” referencing her memoir. Gypsy said her daughter will be able to see that she’s “not a monster.” Additionally, Gypsy Rose said she’s open to letting her daughter also watch documentaries about her life when she’s at an appropriate age.
