Has Joe Rogan Become the Most In-Demand Interviewer This Election Cycle?

In the latest plot twist, as the election looms, podcaster Joe Rogan seems to have emerged as the most sought-after interviewer for both presidential campaigns as they attempt to shore up male voters.

According to Reuters, Vice President Kamala Harris may venture into unfamiliar territory with an appearance on The Joe Rogan Experience. Appearing on the popular podcast would continue the campaign’s recent strategy of exposing non-traditional news consumers to Harris’s agenda. Rogan’s show boasts a heavily male audience, which the campaign has been aggressively courting as November approaches.

It seems both 2024 candidates for president are vying for the podcast’s reach as male voters have become one of the more contested demographics this election season. While an interview is yet to be confirmed, sources told Reuters that Harris’s campaign met with Rogan’s team this week to discuss a potential sit-down. A spokesperson for the campaign did not immediately respond to Vanity Fair’s request for comment. Meanwhile, Donald Trump has also indicated that his campaign is working on scheduling an appearance on The Joe Rogan Experience. In an appearance on Monday’s Nelk Boys podcast, Full Send, when asked whether he would go on Rogan’s show, Trump suggested a plan was already in the works, saying, “I think I’m doing it actually.”

In recent weeks, Trump has appeared in podcasts similar to Rogan’s program, including This Past Weekend With Theo Von and Andrew Schulz’s Flagrant with Akaash Singh. These interviews are often free-flowing, allowing Trump to score some viral soundbites that aren’t restricted to a TV news audience, which continues to dwindle.

If the interview comes to fruition, Harris’s appearance on Rogan’s show would likely be her first time on a program with an intensely male fanbase. She is, however, no stranger to the podcast format, having appeared on Alex Cooper’s Call Her Daddy last week, which boasts a massive female audience. Harris has also recently appeared on Howard Stern’s show.

The shifting media strategy of the two ongoing presidential campaigns signals the continuation of a fracturing media environment and the risk aversion of both campaigns, ultimately pushing politicians to reach voters on nontraditional platforms to get their message across effectively.
