Heat vs. 76ers live score, updates, highlights from 2024 NBA Play-In Tournament game

For the second straight season, the Heat find themselves in the 2024 Play-In Tournament. But as the world learned in 2023, Miami’s seeding doesn’t necessarily reflect its true potential.

Last year, Jimmy Butler & Co. took the Heat to the NBA Finals as the No. 8 seed in the Eastern Conference. They’ll have the opportunity to grab the No. 7 seed in the 2024 playoffs in Wednesday’s Play-In matchup with the Philadelphia 76ers.

The Heat (46-36) have a similar core from previous seasons, with Butler, Bam Adebayo and Tyler Herro atop the roster. The supporting cast switched up a bit, with Max Strus, Gabe Vincent and Kyle Lowry finding new homes.

Instead, Miami drafted Jaime Jaquez Jr. and has seen improvements from Nikola Jovic in his sophomore season. Caleb Martin and Kevin Love remain regular rotation members.

The Heat also acquired Terry Rozier midseason, but the team ruled out the veteran point guard with a neck injury for the game against the 76ers. No matter who suits up, though, the Heat remain a threat with “Playoff Jimmy.”

The 76ers (47-35) also return a similar core to previous playoff runs — the key difference is James Harden is no longer with the team.

Joel Embiid is still the headliner, though he’s still dealing with a knee injury. Nick Nurse expects him to play against the Heat, and the MVP was a full participant at Tuesday’s practice, according to Ky Carlin of USA Today.

Embiid was having an MVP-caliber year before injuries derailed his season. He averaged 34.7 points, 11 rebounds, 5.6 assists on .529/.388/.883 shooting splits. He also added 1.7 blocks and 1.2 steals through 39 games played.

Tyrese Maxey took a massive step in his development this season, proving he can be the lead guard alongside Embiid. He averaged 25.9 points and 6.2 assists per game and made his first All-Star game appearance.

The winner of this game will earn the No. 7 seed and face the No. 2 New York Knicks in a seven-game series. The loser will play the winner of the Play-In game between the No. 9 Chicago Bulls and the No. 10 Atlanta Hawks for the No. 8 seed.
