Here’s What You Need To Know About The Controversial Trump Biopic “The Apprentice”

The First Clip Of The Controversial Movie “The Apprentice” Is Now Out, And Sebastian Stan’s Trump Wig Is A Sight To BeholdIt’s a far cry from any impersonation you’ll see on SNL.

Warning: Discussion of rape.

Behold, we have the first clip of Sebastian Stan as former president and convicted felon Donald Trump.

The official description for the movie reads, “A young Donald Trump (Sebastian Stan), eager to make his name as a hungry scion of a wealthy family in 1970s New York, comes under the spell of Roy Cohn (Jeremy Strong), the cutthroat attorney who would help create the Donald Trump we know today. Cohn sees in Trump the perfect protĂ©gĂ© — someone with raw ambition, a hunger for success, and a willingness to do whatever it takes to win.”

Already you might think that this sounds a little bit too laden with praise for a biopic about a rapist, but I digress. The first clip from the movie has now been released, showing Jeremy’s Roy attempting to coach Sebastian’s Trump through a phone call with a journalist.

Let’s chat about all things 2024 Election

The scene shows Roy encouraging Trump to over-hype up his plans for the Commodore Hotel — Trump’s first major real estate deal — which he obtained in real life with the help of some fake paperwork, which wound up costing NYC over $410 million in forgone revenue.

My immediate thought is that both actors are far too good looking.

However, Sebastian’s voice does sound close to how Trump’s actually did at the time — as you can tell in this clip of the felon from 1980.

The Apprentice has generally received positive reviews, and stands at 73% on Rotten Tomatoes. One reviewer for TheWrap called it a “Frankenstein tale in which the mad doctor creates a monster and then loses control of it.”

Trump’s campaign has threatened legal action over the movie, which features a scene in which he rapes his then-wife Ivana, played by Maria Bakalova (Ivana accused Trump of rape in her divorce deposition). Indeed, the film struggled to find a buyer and is currently holding a Kickstarter for an expanded theatrical run.

The Apprentice is scheduled to release on Oct. 11.
