The upcoming album, Love Remains, underscores Bruce’s sustained passage through love, grief, recovery, and empowerment.

“What I Know” explores romanticizing others and self-discovery. The song was inspired by Bruce’s personal experience of idealizing an unattainable crush. According to Bruce, “The crush was a projection. I discovered that the real search and need was within myself.”

The song’s genesis occurred in 2018 at the PlethoraTone Studio in Brentwood, TN. After going through various transformations, the song materialized as an amalgamation of indie-pop, Americana, and folk, tinted with traces of dance and world music.

Although Bruce was the primary writer of “What I Know,” the collaboration includes award-winning musicians such as Lex Price and Brian Allen on bass, Kevin Daily on electric guitar, Jake Campbell on acoustic guitar, and Jason Erie on baritone guitar. The song was mixed by well-known Nashville producer and engineer Chris Brush.

At an early age, Bruce started crafting melodies by ear. Later, she expanded her gifts while studying music composition at the San Francisco Conservatory. Since then, her evolving vocal talent and songwriting have enlarged in balance, depth, and emotion.

“What I Know” opens on a low-slung, pulsing rhythm topped by Bruce’s deliciously drawling vocals backed by glowing harmonies. Luscious tonal nuances give her voice an alluring quality, ebbing and rising on evocative timbres. The blend of Americana and pop flavors results in a wonderfully captivating melody, oozing with a yummy leitmotif.

At once stylish and vibrant, with “What I Know,” Holly Bruce immediately establishes herself as a talent to keep an eye on.
