Sorry, y’all. Per The Hollywood Reporter, Kevin Costner’s Horizon: An American Saga — Chapter 2 won’t hit theaters on August 16 as scheduled. This is reportedly intended to be a delay, not a cancellation, though a new release date has not yet been announced. A spokesperson for New Line Cinema explained to THR that the Horizon 2 was pulled from the release calendar “in order to give audiences a greater opportunity to discover the first installment of Horizon over the coming weeks.” Horizon: An American Saga — Chapter 1, which cost $100 million to make, made just $11 million during its opening weekend in late June and has so far only brought in around $22.6 million total. The first Horizon movie will now be available to watch on demand on July 16, and will later also stream on Max. Costner’s Territory Pictures said in a statement that it welcomes the “opportunity for that window [for people to watch Horizon 1] to be expanded as we know it will only serve to enhance the experience of seeing Horizon 2.” Meanwhile, Costner is already working on the third movie of what he wants to be a four-part franchise. We’re sure he’s hoping there will be enough audience interest to keep all his plans on the horizon.
