Houston Rockets chasing Pelicans’ Zion Williamson this offseason?
The Houston Rockets hold the valuable assets needed to make a win-now splash this offseason, but patience could be the key to find the perfect fit.
It was first anticipated that Phoenix Suns’ Kevin Durant was their top target, but with the team looking to run it back with their Big Three, Houston shifted gears. New Orleans Pelicans forward Zion Williamson is reported as the newest star they’re taking interest in, according to The Athletic’s Sam Amick and Anthony Slater.
“So, who are the Rockets interested in as franchise centerpiece material? League sources say that Cleveland’s Donovan Mitchell (who is 27 and widely expected to sign an extension with the Cavs soon), the Suns’ Devin Booker (also 27) and New Orleans’ Zion Williamson (23) would all fit the bill. The only problem, of course, is that none of them are expected to be available anytime soon.”
Although Williamson’s partner in the forward room, Brandon Ingram, is heavily involved in trade rumors, their situation could change in the coming years. The former No. 1 pick is 23 years old, meaning he could flawlessly transition to Houston with their young core. Jalen Green and Jabari Smith, who have not yet blossomed, highlight the bunch.
