Having a unique username in Fortnite is very important. It helps your friends identify you easily. So how do you do it?

Modifying your username in Fortnite is fairly simple, if you know what you’re doing. While it’s free on your PC and Nintendo Switch, that isn’t true for Xbox and PlayStation accounts.

That aside, there’s also a cooldown period for your username. During this time, you won’t be able to change your username anymore in the game.

This guide will help you change your name irrespective of the platform you’re on.

How to change your Fortnite username on PC and Nintendo Switch

Unlike consoles, you will be able to change your name on PC and Nintendo Switch completely free of cost. However, the cooldown period for these two platforms lasts for two weeks. That said, here’s how you can do it on these platforms:

Visit the Epic Games website and log into your account.

After you’ve logged in, click on your account icon in the top right corner and select the Account Info option.

Beside your username, you will see that there’s a pen icon.

Click on the icon, enter your choice of name, and then click on the Confirm button.

That’s all you need to do to change your Fortnite username of PC and Nintendo Switch. However, you need to ensure that this name is unique. If there are others who have the same name with the exact same characters, you might not be able to use it.

How to change your name on Xbox and PlayStation

The process of changing your name on consoles isn’t a free process. Furthermore, since it’s linked to your Xbox and PlayStation accounts, changing your Fortnite username would mean changing the name of your account on the platform itself.

Here’s what you need to do to make the change:

Xbox

Press the “Home” button on your controller and navigate to your profile.

Select “My Profile” and then “Customize Profile“.

Under the said option, select “Choose New Gamertag“, and then enter your preferred username.

PlayStation

Navigate to the “Account Information” section in the “Account Management” tab.

Under your profile, select your Online ID, and on the window that opens next, enter your new ID.

Confirm your selection and leave the window.

If you’ve followed the steps correctly, you should be able to see your new Fortnite username now.
