No V-Bucks? No problem. Everyone can get free skins in Fortnite. Make sure you know how to claim free Fortnite skins before they expire.
Over the years, Fortnite has been releasing countless skins that players can obtain in the game. From collaboration skins with celebrities, and anime series, to popular TV shows, the list goes on. While a lot of these skins generally can be purchased from the Item Shop and Battle Pass, you’ll need to spend real-life money to buy them with V-Bucks, the in-game currency.
Despite that, Fortnite is known to give out free skins once in a while, which you can easily claim while they last. Whether you’re someone who loves buying the newest set in the Item Shop or collecting skins, you wouldn’t want to miss out on these free skins since they’re usually time-limited. Update: There aren’t any free Fortnite skins which have been added in the month of January. However, the ones that were available in the month of December are still available now!

Currently, we’ve been blessed to be able to obtain eight free skins in Chapter 5 Season 1. Here’s a complete list of all the available free skins and how you can obtain them.

How to Claim Free Fortnite Skins

Depending on the skin, generally you’ll need to complete a certain task to claim them. Overall, the Winterfest Bushranger and Holiday Boxy skins are the easiest to claim since all you need to do is head to the Winterfest Gift page. In the menu, open the Quest category, select Daily Gift, and then click the present icon to claim these skins.
As part of the LEGO collaboration, Fortnite has also released the Explorer Emilie and Trailblazer Tai skins. You can claim Explorer Emilie for free by creating a LEGO account on the LEGO website, and then connecting it with your Fortnite account. For Trailblazer Tai, complete four quests from the Trailblazer Tai quest section in LEGO Fortnite.
On the other hand, the Jackie skin requires you to reach Gold 1 in Fortnite Rocket Racing to be available to claim. If you’re constantly playing the game and completing quests, the Runway Racer skin should be a piece of cake, since it requires you to reach level 50 account level.

Moving on to the Redcap skin, you’ll need to invite a new or returning player and complete the Refer a Friend tasks together. This requires you to login to the Refer a Friend site and invite an eligible friend. From then on, simply finish the tasks from the Refer a Friend page together in-game.

Lastly, the Subzero Cryptic outfit isn’t technically free since it requires you to subscribe to PlayStation Plus. However, if you already own this subscription, then it will automatically be claimable in the PlayStation Store under the Fortnite – Chilling Mystery Pack.

Generally, you’ll want to stay tuned to the latest events and quests in Fortnite, especially for the limited-time ones. These usually come with a set of quests that will reward you with a bunch of cosmetics, including skins. Some skins can even be claimed simply by logging in and opening presents, like the Sled Ready Guff skin from last year’s Winterfest.
Other than that, you can obtain certain skins by competing in themed tournaments. This will pit you against other players, with the highest-ranking being able to get the skin before it appears in the Item Shop.
