England U21s are hoping to secure their place in the European Championship quarter-finals against Germany this Wednesday, live on talkSPORT. 

The Young Lions began their European title defence with a win, but they faltered against Slovenia, drawing 0-0 last time out.

Germany have beaten both Slovenia and Czechia, putting them two points clear of Lee Carsley’s side heading into this game. 

However, England know that victory here will reclaim top spot, while a draw is also enough to secure progression to the quarters. 

Defeat though, could end up seeing the Young Lions eliminated should Slovenia win and turn around a goal difference deficit.

But Carsley could now make even more switches to help keep his squad fresh for the knockout stages, should they make it.

Jay Stansfield and Samuel Iling Junior are still awaiting their first starts of the tournament, along with Tyler Morton and Jack Hinshelwood. 

For Germany, Nick Woltemade is in fine form, having scored four in two games, and Brighton star Brajan Gruda is sure to make an impact.

Speaking after the goalless draw with Slovenia, the U21s boss said: “It was a very tough game. 

“We definitely didn’t underestimate Slovenia, who are a good, well-organised team.

“I definitely think we had enough chances to win, though, so the frustration is that we didn’t take those opportunities.
