Stanford wrestling tours Iowa this weekend, competing in an exciting matchup against the second-ranked Hawkeyes. Â
One of the top schools last season not named Penn State, Iowa has high expectations this year. Olympic gold medalist Tom Brands returns as the head coach, where he has served well in Iowa on and off the mat. Iowa handily beat Oregon State to open its season and recently announced it sold out season tickets for the fourth consecutive season.Â
Stephen Buchanan joins the team after becoming a three-time All-American at Wyoming and Oklahoma. The team will also have several former high school wrestling standouts and Drake Ayala, the 2024 NCAA Tournament runner-up at 125.Â
Stanford looks to go deep in the ACC, which the school recently joined. Stanford already won two matchups before heading to Iowa to face Iowa State and Iowa. The team is coached by Chris Ayres, heading into his second season with the school after years at Princeton.
Jack Consiglio recently earned his first collegiate win, while multi-time NCAA qualifier Nick Stemmet is ready to have a fifth year to remember.Â
