Who will walk out with the ultimate bragging rights when Joy Joyce and Derek Chisora face off in an all-British affair in the O2 Arena? A win can help elevate both fighters in a crowded heavyweight division.
“This is a proper old-school heavyweight fight that seems to have been a long time in the making,” Queensberry Promotionsā Frank Warren said via ESPN.
“Two top London heavies fighting it out for a place back at the top table promises to deliver a cracking scrap. The winner is right back in business, with no real place to go for the loser.ā
Joyce (16-2) is a former British, Commonwealth, and European heavyweight champion. The 38-year-old won the interim WBO heavyweight title but lost it following two straight losses against Zhilei Zhang. He rebounded against Kash Ali in March.
Chisora (34-13) looks to return to title contention after losing against Tyson Fury in 2022 for the WBC heavyweight title, his third loss against Fury. āDel Boyā last fought a year ago, beating Gerald Washington. The 40-year-old is two years older than Joyce but believes his experience will play a factor in the fight.
“Joe is not going to win,” Chisora said via BBC.com. “He can train as much as he wants, but when it comes to the real grind of it, I’m more vicious than him. I fear no man. There’s no feeling each other out in the first round – I’m going in.”
