“Huge Believer”: Jerod Mayo Announces NFL Draft Plans for New England Patriots as “Developing” HC Reveals Cryptic Message

It’s been a handful of days since Jerod Mayo took over the New England Patriots, and he has already started to make changes. The Pats have much to look forward to with the drafts coming up. This is an iconic time because the Pats are venturing into the wild without Bill Belichick, a thing that’s hard to comprehend for most people.

However, Mayo has different plans for the team. He served under Belichick and had a lot to learn from him. However, by the looks of it, Mayo is keen to find Belichick’s best parts and apply them to his coaching. Other than that, Mayo is his own man with the best of intentions for the team.

Dov Kleiman’s post on X shows exactly what his plans are for the team. Now that the Patriots have a 3rd draft pick, they are set to make wise decisions and possibly try to find a franchise QB. In an interview with CBS, Mayo was asked how excited he was for the 3rd pick in the upcoming draft.

“I’m excited, I’m very excited,” said the head coach cryptically and added, “We’re gonna draft the best player for a position that’s very important. You put the pieces together.” Only time will tell what will happen to the Patriots in the upcoming season. However, as the 15th head coach, we can say that Mayo is different. He came at a time when the NFL focused on hiring young coaches, and his work ethic is slightly different than most.

According to a report by CBS, the HC is a fan of honing talent, whether on or off the field. On top of that, he mentioned that he would surround himself with level-headed people who were not afraid to correct him if or when he took a wrong step and would hopefully help in “developing” a new Patriots.

“I’m a huge believer in developing people, whether it’s on the football field, off the football field, in the media world, or in business,” Mayo told CBS. However, time will tell if these plans will work out. However, they might have to focus on recruiting the right talent for the upcoming draft.

What should the Pats expect from the upcoming draft? The NFL will see the entry of new players and possibly those who will cement their legacy in the future, and it is safe to say that the Patriots might bank on a player like that. They have a chance at USC’s Caleb Williams, one of the best QBs in the college scene, expected to go for a first pick overall. The Pats might draft him.

Other available options are UNC’s Drake Maye, LSU’s Jayden Daniels, and a receiver from Ohio State named Marvin Harrison Jr. Michael Penix Jr. will also be available for a pick if the Pats could negotiate. Now that Belichick’s gone, the scouting falls under Jerod Mayo. So he would have to decide which is best for the team. And with these prospects, the Patriots might be completely unrecognizable when the next season comes.
