Prior to that, Wiegman guided her native Netherlands to glory back in 2017.

She has since enjoyed four successful years with England after taking charge in 2021.

As well as winning the previous Euros, this year’s finalists were beaten by Spain in the Women’s World Cup’s showpiece clash two years ago.

A win would see the Lionesses become the first English senior side to win two major tournaments.

Their sole Euros crown is tied with the Three Lions’ 1966 World Cup victory.

And they would be the first England senior side to win a major championship on foreign soil.

England would also become only the second country to win consecutive Women’s Euros after Germany.

The eight-time winners won back-to-back editions in 1989 and 1991 before clinching six in a row between 1995 and 2013.

Asked how she has achieved so much, she told talkSPORT: “Well, I actually don’t know.

“I think I’ve worked with incredible people, staff, incredible football players.

“And what I’m just trying to do is create an environment where everyone can be at her best and at his best too.

“Because I’m trying to do that with staff too and create this environment where we take action and mistakes are part of our journey.

“Then of course I have very good people around me with so many qualities and give them the opportunity also to show and to express their qualities. That brings the team into a better place.”

Beth Mead on Wiegman’s qualitiesHowever, her players are in no doubt over what makes Wiegman so good to play for.

Beth Mead explained: “As a player, you always know where you stand, you know what your job is, you know what the manager expects of you.

“Her direct ‘Dutchness’ helps in that sense and you can have a conversation with her and not come out with any questions, which is always nice, both individually and as a team.

“And you know that she trusts you, whether you’re a starter, whether you’re a game changer, whatever it may be, you feel that respect and that trust from her throughout.

“Since she’s started, she’s not changed. And there’s been a lot of chaos, there’s been a lot of changes here and there and people playing in different positions.

“But in Sarina we trust and there’s method in the madness always.”
