‘I don’t think it’s fair’… Sparring partner dropped by Jake Paul in viral Mike Tyson clip opens up about leaked moment

Jake Paul’s infamous sparring partner has finally spoken up about being dropped in a viral training clip last month.

The social media star garnered tens of millions of views when he shared a video showing himself knocking down top 15 heavyweight DeAndre Savage during a training session. Paul is due to face boxing icon Mike Tyson next week, and has been bulking up to a new weight class.

But he appears to still have the power in his right hand as he landed clean on Savage, temporarily flooring him before they continued with their spar. And now the Michigan native is speaking about what happened on that day in Puerto Rico.

Jake Paul vs Mike Tyson: How to watch, live stream, start time, full card and rulesJake Paul dropped top 15 heavyweight in viral sparring videoOn October 17, Jake Paul shared a video in which he appeared to floor a teammate during a sparring session. The social media star ducked his head and winged an overhand right, similar to the shot he used to knock out Tyron Woodley in 2021, with fans immediately looking to find out who the opponent was.

Paul taunted Tyson in his caption, writing that the iconic boxer should “take notes”. He also said in a later part of the footage that the former world heavyweight champion should make sure not to “charge at him”.

When some fans on X, formerly Twitter, claimed that it was unbeaten heavyweight Jeremiah Milton he clapped back and revealed who was actually in the video. He had already fought Savage in the amateurs, stopping him early in a previously viral clip.

DeAndre Savage ‘understands’ why Jake Paul leaked sparring videoIn an interview with Pro Boxing Fans, Savage admitted for the first time that it was him in the footage, and claimed that he understood the fight game sometimes requires that sort of hype. Generally, it’s an unwritten rule that you don’t leak sparring footage.

However, Savage noted that “it’s a different type of show,” when Paul is involved. “That was me,” he said. “Jake came in and he caught me with a good right hand and I just went down to my knee and got back up, that was it.

“I also want to thank Jake and his team and his coach because for me being in that camp I was able to purchase my first home. I want to thank Jake Paul for that, we are in boxing to win fights and be successful, we’re here to make money – that’s why I’m in boxing.

“I don’t think it’s fair [to leak sparring footage], but I do understand the business. I got some clips too, I don’t have the actual footage but I know Jake saw the clips of me and other fighters too that I have hurt in the gym. Two of them top ten guys in the heavyweight division, maybe three.

“I don’t have that footage but they got the footage, though. So it’s all good, I understand the business of it… I have been dazed before but Jake never dazed me, I wasn’t hurt or anything, I went down on one knee and got back up, it’s all good.”

DeAndre Savage ‘wants Mike Tyson to win’ in Jake Paul showdownDespite being a teammate of Paul’s and his help throughout camp, Savage can’t help but root for the aging Tyson. However, he fears the 31-year gap between the pair will be too much to overcome, even given their massive experience disparity.

“I don’t know, we’ve got to see what happens, I hope it goes to the points, though. I don’t think it’s going to be a fight like everyone thinks it’s going to be. It’s like boxing, but it’s a different type of show. It’s a different crowd, it’s entertainment and Jake sells a lot of tickets.”
