‘I miss my father’ – Oleksandr Usyk breaks down in tears at press conference following Tyson Fury win

Oleksandr Usyk got emotional when asked about his late father after beating Tyson Fury.

The 37-year-old wobbled and dropped Fury in a thrilling 12-round fight that ended with him winning the WBA, WBO, WBC, and IBF heavyweight titles.

Usyk almost closed the show in round 9Usyk lost his father shortly after winning gold at the 2012 Olympics and he was at the forefront of his mind after becoming the first-ever four-belt undisputed heavyweight champion.

“Dad, do you hear me? We did it,” he said in the ring after his big win.

Later, the Ukrainian implied that his father still visits him in his dreams during a post-fight press conference.

“I miss my father and I said to him ‘You live there, and I live here, please don’t come for me, I love you’,” Usyk said.

“I know he is here, maybe sitting out there [in the press room].”

In the ring immediately after the result was confirmed, Fury claimed he would be triggering the rematch clause in his contract, but Usyk didn’t want to talk about running it back with ‘The Gypsy King’.

He added: “I don’t think about boxing now, please.”

“I missed Happy New Year, I missed my son’s birthday, I missed my other son’s birthday, I missed my daughter’s birthday and then the birth of my daughter.

“I also missed family holidays. I was only focused on this fight, now I’m happy and I want to go back home.”

Despite initially calling for a redo, Fury was much more coy about what’s next as he also focused on heading home for some family time during his post-fight press conference.

“I’m going home to eat some food, have some drinks, have some family time walk the dog, go to the tip and then me and Frank [Warren] will talk about what is going to happen in the future,” Fury said.

“I’m not boxing because I have money, I do it because I love it.
