I see a lot of tears if (when…) Newcastle United go top of the Premier League team

Newcastle United top of the Premier League.

It has a nice ring to it.

By the time the clock ticks to somewhere around 5pm this afternoon, this could be the reality.

I am not counting my chickens just yet, but if indeed Newcastle United win at Fulham, this is where we will be.

I know we have won on our last five visits here but no way am I taking victory for granted this afternoon.

I think all three results are possible in this match but no reason why Newcastle United can’t win this.

Especially if we play well…

This is how the Premier League table currently stands on Saturday morning:

If this is how the very final Premier League table looks in May 2025, then count me in!

However, no harm in the meantime to have a bit of fun…

I celebrate every Newcastle United victory like it could be our last BUT this one today would have a massive extra edge.

Not just the fact it would cement our place up around the top and mean we have 13 points already from a possible 15, it would be the reaction of so many people to the sight of Eddie Howe’s side sitting at the very top.

Yes, I know Man City play Arsenal tomorrow and that would mean almost certainly (though not 100 percent) one of those at the very top by Sunday night, even if Newcastle United win today.

However, that doesn’t change at all the fact that everybody would be looking up at NUFC for at least 24 hours, if/when we win today.

I am already laughing at the thought of the absolute fume on Wearside if we do win today.

“You’ve played nobody yet.”

“You’re rubbish, just lucky in all these wins.”

“You’ll be off the top tomorrow.”

“You’ll drop down the table like a stone.”

‘Saudis buying off the Premier League.”

“Saudis buying off the match officials.”

‘”Saudis cheating by buying all those players…”

And that would be just the Mackems!!!

Never mind the journalists, rival (Premier League!) fans, the pundits… indeed, some of our own NUFC fans! Those Newcastle United fans who have dug themselves into such a deep hole of negativity that they are now in the sad position it seems of actually wanting their team to get beat in matches in order to ‘prove’ how right they have been about Newcastle United supposedly playing rubbish.

Live for the moment is what I say.

You never know what is round the corner.

If/when we beat Fulham, I will actually love it… all the abuse, the fume, the outrage! The more he better!! As they all line up to say how it is a disgrace that Newcastle United are top of the Premier League table.

I will leave the final word to Eddie Howe, who was asked about this possibility at his pre-Fulham press conference:

“It would be nice [to go top of the league with a win at Fulham].

“It is a great motivation for us.

“It means nothing because it is so early in the season,

“However, it is where we want to be.”

I couldn’t have out it better myself.
