“I’m Always Annoyed By It”: People Are Sharing The Popular Food Trends They 100% Disagree With

1.

“‘Girl dinners.’ So basically, you cleaned out the fridge and then gave your meal a childish name…”

2.

“The obsession with dump recipes prepared in those flimsy aluminum casserole trays, which always also seem to involve a block of cream cheese. Will the world end if you properly prepare your sauce in another saucepan first?”

3.

“The ’30-minute’ recipe that really takes an hour and twenty minutes to prepare.”

4.

“Excessive cheese. I’m a ‘measure with your heart’ gal, but an entire wheel of deep-fried Brie is not a burger bun. Yuck.

5.

“I’m always annoyed by the ‘deconstructed’ trend, where a restaurant serves something like a ‘deconstructed taco’ that is literally just taco ingredients arranged on a plate with a pile of chips. That’s called nachos.”

6.

“Any recipe with a can of Cambell’s soup in it. Any recipe that starts with a slow cooker or casserole dish and a can of condensed soup is not something I’m going to make.”

7.

“Any type of dish that is over-the-top and overly messy, like those milkshakes that have syrup and chocolate coating the outside of the glass with all kinds of sweets piled on top. Or, one of those extravagant and unnecessary Bloody Mary’s that are stacked with chicken wings, sliders, bacon, shrimp, and more.”

8.

“I hate that when a new (usually very old) ingredient becomes ‘cool,’ it’s suddenly in loads of recipes where it doesn’t belong. I like truffle oil, chili crisp, and gochujang as much as the next person, but they don’t enhance EVERY dish.”

9.

“‘Marry-me-anything’ recipes. No thanks!”

10.

“The fancier the burger, the taller and more difficult to eat. I hate this trend.”

11.

“Adding cottage cheese to everything. It’s okay to have bread and for it to not have 72 grams of protein in it.”

12.

“Calling flavored mayonnaise aioli. Especially when it doesn’t even include garlic.”

13.

“ASMR cooking videos where the talking is a whisper, but the scraping and chopping is like nails on a chalkboard.”

—u/DJlazzycoco

14.

“Finely chopped salads. I would rather not have my salad chopped. I like the size difference, and chopping all of the ingredients turns it into salad soup. I’d prefer the joy of a large chunk of egg or a good hunk of tomato.”

15.

“Truffle everything, from mayo to mac ‘n’ cheese to fries. I’ve never tried real truffles, but 99% of the ‘truffle’ flavored dishes I’ve had at restaurants are dowsed in disgusting synthetic-tasting truffle oil. Bleh.”

16.

“Calling everything related to cooking a ‘hack.’ Every single video or short is something like ‘this ramen hack changed my life,’ and then it’s a video of someone soft boiling and marinating eggs and roasting pork belly. That’s not a hack…it’s just called a recipe.”

—u/thuggydizzle

17.

“Dripping, messy, disgusting sandwiches. I want a sandwich because it’s clean and easy. If I wanted something messy that I’d have to wear a bib to enjoy, I’d order another kind of meal.”

18.

“I’m tired of the overly aggressive cooking videos. There’s no reason for you to be throwing pans and punching garlic.”

—u/PreschoolBoole

19.

“People trying to make everything into a one-pot meal. There are plenty of meals that can be done in a single pot. But there are way more that can’t. Not everything needs to be one pot. Good god, just learn to clean some dishes.”

20.

“The way bloggers post their life story before the recipe on their websites. I do not care about the backstory of your grandma’s banana bread and how she made it in her checker wallpaper kitchen in her farmhouse while pregnant with your mom. I just want the recipe.”

“For me, it’s aggressively sweet/rich/decadent desserts. For example, just give me a really good, well-baked chocolate chip cookie. I don’t need a triple chocolate dough plosion piled high with candied bacon, Oreo pieces, buttercream frosting, and sweet panko flakes. It makes my teeth and my chest hurt.”
