Indonesian Horror Film ‘Perewangan’ Picked Up by EST N8

Serving a rising demand for Indonesian horror, U.S.-Thai film sales company EST N8 has picked up rights to “Perewangan,” a feature that launches in its home market theaters later this month.

In “Perewangan,” characters Maya and Wulan face supernatural terror as their once-thriving family business crumbles, leading them to confront a horrifying figure behind their misfortunes.

The film is written and directed by filmmaker Awi Suryadi, known for his work on “KKN Di Desa Penari,” the highest-grossing Indonesian film of all time, and the “Danur” franchise. The cast is headed by Davina Karamoy, Restu Triandy and popular musician Shanty.

Perewangan is produced by MD Pictures, an MD Entertainment company, and part of the ManojPunjabi-led film and TV empire in Indonesia. The group has released over 190 films, including “KKN Di Desa Penari.”

In addition to Perewangan, EST N8’s Busan market sales slate includes: the currently in-post production time-loop thriller “30 Minutes”; Kongkiat Komesiri’s new thriller “Delivery Man”; Fantasia Best Director Award-winning Korean action film “Mash Ville”; horror thriller “Chabak,” which was No. 1 on Netflix Korea and was produced by the legendary Tiger Yeongseop Kim; and the Nepalese historical drama “Gurkha Warrior.”

EST N8 was formed EST Studios and N8. EST Studios was launched in 2022 by Jaeson Ma and Eric Tu. It represents Asian content across multiple genres and seeks an annual slate of 15 projects that it can finance, produce and represent. Thailand-based, N8 was founded by Kris Eiamsakulrat and Rachel Wu. Last year N8 formed a partnership with leading Thai studio GDH559, to co-produce a slate of Thai thriller and horror films aimed at the global audience.

“The collaboration with MD Entertainment on ‘Perewangan’ marks an exciting chapter in horror cinema. We are dedicated to bringing innovative and captivating stories to life, and Awi Suryadi’s exceptional talent is sure to elevate this project to new heights,” said Jaeson Ma, chairman of EST Studios.
