Intense Bracket is Set For CDL Major I in Boston
It has been a remarkable opening stage for the Call of Duty League’s 2024 season. In a dramatic few weeks, Atlanta FaZe has proven itself to be the frontrunner of the tournament yet again by refusing to drop a single series through the Major I qualifiers. With a record of 21 – 5, FaZe has effortlessly walked through every team it has faced since the League commenced in December. Now, the stage is set for Major I in Boston – and Atlanta FaZe is the favourite to win.
However, there’s a huge amount of talent stepping up to the plate at the Boston Major. In the last few weeks, we’ve seen the Miami Heretics throw down against the best teams in the business, showing solid resiliency. There’s also a huge amount of determination showing in Toronto Ultra and the New York Subliners, both sitting on a series record of 6 – 1 and looking for clear results at Major I.
Run It Back
Last year, the New York Subliners was the most dominant team on the board. With two Major wins and a victory at COD Champs over Toronto Ultra, the Subliners burst into the 2024 season with immense purpose. So far, the momentum has carried the team to a top seed at the Boston Major, but a crushing loss against Toronto Ultra may have shaken the squad’s resolve somewhat. There’s an extremely high chance that Toronto Ultra and the Subliners will clash again in the second round in Boston, and fans are excited.
There’s an interesting board shaping up at the moment. OpTic Texas was a frontrunner for T3 before the season started, with the team looking strong in scrims. Now that the season has kicked off, a different picture is being painted, and OpTic Texas is currently a middle-of-the-road team with a series record of 4 – 3.
In Boston, four teams will have just one chance to prove themselves and push through the lower bracket:
LA Thieves
Vegas Legion
Boston Breach
Carolina Royal Ravens
It has been a tough season so far for these squads. Both the Royal Ravens and Vegas Legion are sitting on a record of 1 – 6, which is a crushing figure. It has been particularly hard on Carolina’s James ‘Clayster’ Eubanks, the CDL’s most veteran player who recently spoke about retiring if this season goes south.
To The Major
There are high expectations for the Major, especially with so many teams being in such strong form ahead of the competition. Here are the opening fixtures for the first winner’s round:
Atlanta FaZe vs. LA Guerrillas (Jan 25, 18:30)
Miami Heretics vs. OpTic Texas (Jan 25, 23:00)
Toronto Ultra vs. Seattle Surge (Jan 25, 21.30)
New York Subliners vs. Minnesota Rokkr (Jan 25, 20:00)
On paper, that’s an incredible line-up. It’ll be a fun-filled few hours for fans of the Call of Duty League, and even if viewership has dipped because of the move to YouTube, this should still be a strong showing.
