Inter Milan eye Nigeria-eligible Italian full-back as potential Dumfries replacement

Inter Milan have won twenty-one games in the Italian Serie A this season, losing just one and are eleven points clear at the top of the table with a game in hand.

Thirty-six-time Italian Champions, Inter Milan, are keeping an eye on Fiorentina full-back, Michael Kayode, as a potential replacement for Denzel Dumfries, Soccernet.ng reports.

Dutch full-back, Denzel Dumfries has been a servant at the San Siro since 2021, winning the Copa Italia and the Super Copa Italia with Simone Inzaghi’s side.

The 27-year-old’s contract runs out in 2025 and the club has not been able to reach an agreement with the former PSV man regarding a new deal, hinting at a possible departure from the Nerazzurri’s in the summer.

According to Inter News, the 2010 UEFA Champions League winners have identified 19-year-old Michael Kayode as a potential replacement for Dumfries.

Kayode was born in Italy and currently plays as a right-back for Fiorentina after coming through the ranks at the club’s academy and might cost Inter a fortune as his current contract expires in 2028.

He was previously linked with Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal, and has featured for the U-18,U-19, and U-21 levels of the Italian national team, but a switch of allegiance to don the colours of Nigeria isn’t out of the question.

Kayode scored his first senior career goal in the Violas’ Serie A win over Lazio yesterday and is held in high regard by the former Napoli coach, Luciano Spalletti who is now in charge of the Italian national team.

Fiorentina are currently 7th on the Serie A table, four points above last season’s Scudetto winners, Napoli and will play Torino this weekend as they look to defy the odds in order to book a European spot.
