Is George Pickens playing tonight? Steelers wide receiver has quiet first quarter
The Pittsburgh Steelers are taking on the New York Giants on Monday Night Football in Week 8 and wide receiver George Pickens is off to a quiet start through the first quarter.
Pickens had gotten off to a slow start to the season, as he was inconsistent with Justin Fields under center over the first six games.
However, Pickens came alive in Week 7 when Russell Wilson took over the starting job and posted his best showing of the 2024 campaign, with Pickens scoring his first touchdown of the year and tallying 111 receiving yards.
But Pickens isn’t off to the start many hoped he would be early on in the Steelers’ matchup against the Giants on Monday night. Here’s a closer look at what’s going on.
Is George Pickens playing tonight?UPDATE: Pickens has finally recorded his first catch of the game in the second quarter. It was good for 14 yards. Hopefully that’ll get him going the rest of the way.
END OF UPDATE
Pickens is in the lineup but was held without a catch in the first quarter of the game against the Giants. He did get a target that would have been a touchdown reception but it was called back because of a penalty on right tackle Broderick Jones.
Another issue has been the fact that Pittsburgh’s rushing attack has been on fire early on, with running back Najee Harris picking up chunks of yards. As a result, the Steelers haven’t had to pass the football much.
There is still plenty of time for Pickens to get on track, but right now things aren’t looking great for the third-year wide receiver.
