Lucas Bravo Reacts to Lily Collins’ “Emily in Paris” Age
Lucas Bravo might catch the next flight out of Paris.
Indeed, the Emily in Paris star, who has played Gabriel, a love interest of Lily Collins’ Emily since its first season, admitted he’s felt less connected to the Michelin-rated chef.
“The ‘sexy chef’ was very much part of me in Season 1 and we grew apart season after season because of the choices he makes and because of the direction they make him take,” Lucas confessed to IndieWire in an interview published Oct. 29. “I’ve never been so far away from him.”
And while the 36-year-old felt himself drawn to the character as it was written in season one, he feels his personality has jumped the shark.
“They made him kind of unaware of his surroundings,” Lucas continued. “Of the dynamic, always victimizing and always being completely lost in translation and oblivious to anything that is happening around him and being manipulated by everyone.”
Due to the changes in his character, Lucas shared that filming Emily in Paris is “not fun” for him anymore.
“To shoot or to see a character I love so much and brought me so much, being slowly turned into guacamole,” he explained. “I really grew apart from him.”
And because, as he notes, his contract with the Netflix show was completed in Season 4, Lucas posited whether he’d even be interested in returning—despite the fact the series was renewed last month.
“I tried for seasons to bring nuances but we don’t have much liberty on set,” he waffled. “We cannot change a word or an emotion. It makes me question if I want to be part of Season 5. I really want to see if Gabriel gets back to his fun, cheeky, playful, alive self.”
But Lucas isn’t holding his breath, as he considered other potential plot changes in the series that were ultimately reigned back in by showrunner Darren Star.

“They’re probably holding onto something that they couldn’t measure that had such a success so now they are very precious about not changing the recipe and keeping it what it was,” he hypothesized. “Anything that could go off road is carefully taken back. It’s a lot of souffles. Pregnant? No, fake positive. Going to Rome? No, coming back. There are a lot of things like that. There is a lack of risk.”
Lucas’ candid comments come shortly after he lauded Darren for fighting for him to play the part of Gabriel, telling People in September that the showrunner had known he “was the part from the beginning.”
And the Netflix actor acknowledged his more recent comments toward the series were a bit harsh.
“I feel like I am not being nice or grateful,” he added to IndieWire, “but when you love something—you want the best version of it. I’m not going to lie, I’ve been frustrated with the direction by character is taking. But we’ll see where it goes. The show is not over.”
