Is Teyana Taylor Teasing A Return To Music?
Even though Teyana Taylor formally retired from music back in 2020, she never really strayed too far from her roots.
This past Wednesday (Jan. 3), she previewed new music on her Instagram stories and fans are ready for the Harlem native’s comeback. “You want it/ You can have it again/ Don’t waste your time/ You need it/I can please it,” she sings in the sultry “red light special”-esque teaser.
As the snippet made its rounds across the internet, it garnered several positive reactions. Singer Tony Brown Jr. wrote, “Glad she’s not actually giving up on music, the tone is so unique.” Another fan made sure to note that people should appreciate all of Taylor’s music, adding, “I want it… but the masses need to go back and appreciate her other albums first!”
Others felt this music may hit different following her divorce from Iman Shumpert as one chimed in, “Post break up R&B is the best.” Taylor and Shumpert’s divorce proceedings began last January, but were made public back in November—two months after they confirmed their separation.
The new music would be her first solo endeavor back into the field after appearing on Diddy’s The Love Album: Off The Grid. Since retiring, she’s pivoted into a role as creative director for acts including Latto, Lil Baby, Summer Walker, and Lola Brooke.
She’s also delved into more acting roles with films such as White Men Can’t Jump and A Thousand And One. Taylor is currently manifesting an Oscar nomination for the latter, after calling it her “breakout, take-me-serious, I’m-here-and-I’m-here-to-stay type of role.”
