Issa Rae’s ‘Rap Sh!t’ Canceled By MAX After 2 Seasons

It’s been confirmed by Max that Issa Rae‘s Rap Sh!t will not return for a third season.

“We are extremely grateful to Issa Rae for creating Rap Sh!t, a one-of-a-kind comedy with compelling social commentary that reached viewers in a way only Issa’s talents can accomplish,” said a Max spokesperson in a statement. “A huge thank you to Issa, showrunner Syreeta Singleton and the teams at Hoorae and 3 Arts Entertainment for introducing us to Shawna [Aida Osman] and Mia [KaMillion], a duo whose journey fans have been invested in and who they have continued to root for through everything. We’ll never get ‘Seduce and Scheme‘ out of our heads and we wouldn’t have it any other way.”

The series—which was loosely based on the City Girls’ success story—centered around Shawna, a hotel clerk-turned-scammer, who reunites with Mia, her estranged friend from high school. Together, they decide to start a rap duo in Miami. Jonica Booth, Daniel Augustin, Jaboukie Young-White, RJ Cyler, and DomiNque Perry are among the stacked talent that round out the cast.

Season two was originally set to premiere in August, but was delayed until November in light of the SAG-AFTRA strike. It concluded just before Christmas on Dec. 21.

Following season one, VIBE deemed Rap Sh!t as “necessary viewing” as the show “successfully illustrates the ‘bad bi**h renaissance’” that Mia spoke of, with the rise of female rappers dominating Hip-Hop like GloRilla, Coi Leray, Megan Thee Stallion, Bia, Sexyy Red, and more.

Osman and KaMillion hope to be remembered for Rap Sh!t, telling VIBE, “I’m ready for the show to be culture. I’m really ready for people to embrace it. Something to be like, that’s culture. People remember this ten years from now like, ‘Yeah, remember that Rap Sh!t show. Them girls really did that.’”

Both seasons of Rap Sh!t are streaming on MAX.
