‘It dawned on me’ – Draymond Green reveals Steph Curry’s emotional admission over future sparked by Jimmy Butler trade

Draymond Green and Steph Curry may be in the twilight of their careers – but they’re still gunning for more glory.

The four-time NBA champions look set to end their careers at the Golden State Warriors and with the arrival of Jimmy Butler, it’s left Curry with some serious reflection.

Draymond Green admitted there isn’t long left for him and Steph CurryWhen the Warriors traded Andrew Wiggins for Butler, it signalled a desire to maximise their remaining championship window with Curry.

So the instant impact of Butler would have been welcomed by everyone as Golden State have improved to a 3-1 record since the trade.

Speaking about Butler, Green said: “He’s a franchise changer. He’s done that everywhere he’s gone, and he is helping revitalize what we got here.

“The belief amongst this team, now that he’s arrived, as opposed to what it was before he got here, it’s night and day.”

READ MORE NBA Warriors coach Steve Kerr recently echoed Green’s remarks and made the point Butler is the kind of finisher that Curry has longed for.

“Jimmy, he’s a real deal,” Kerr told reporters after the Warriors’ 105-98 victory over the Houston Rockets on Thursday.

“I mean, just a complete basketball player, methodical, under control all the time plays at his own pace, never turns it over, sees the game and then can get to the line frequently.

“Great closer, not in the traditional sense where he’s going to be Kevin Durant and make four straight midrange jumpers, but it’s more of a complete game.”

Butler’s phenomenal start in San Francisco has also sparked some sad reflections on the part of Curry and Green.

Green on an episode of his podcast, the Draymond Green Show, recalled the bittersweet message Curry told him after the trade of Butler.

“He looked at me, and he said, ‘ Man, it’s crazy because it just dawned on me that this is it, this is the last run.’

“And I said, ‘Let’s do it.’ It was an emotional moment.” 

The 2022 NBA finals MVP is playing his basketball for months with Butler in the team as over his last four games, Curry is averaging 35.3 points, 5.3 assists and 4.5 rebounds.

When we also take into account that Curry, Butler and Green’s salaries for the 2025-26 season take up 80 percent of the Warriors cap room, even the front office have gone all in on winning a title with this trio.

Golden State sit tenth in the Western Conference, but there is plenty of time to build momentum to make a run into the playoffs and with Butler’s arrival, that has become the minimum expectation.
