“It’s only a matter of time” – Ex-Super Eagles goalkeeper tips Nwabali to surpass Vincent Enyeama’s legacy
Former Super Eagles goalkeeper, Alloysius Uzoma Agu, has likened Stanley Nwabali to Vincent Enyeama, backing the current Nigeria number one to surpass the legacy of the ex-LOSC Lille man, Soccernet.ng reports.
Nwabali came into prominence in Nigeria’s AFCON 2023 campaign, helping Jose Peseiro’s team to four clean sheets in seven games as they claimed silver medal in Ivory Coast.
Since then, the Chippa United goalkeeper has been the undisputed number one between the sticks for the three-time AFCON winners.
Agu has highlighted the similarities between Nwabali and Vincent Enyeama. Enyeama won the AFCON 2013 tournament as captain of the Super Eagles, and Agu believes isn’t far from achieving the same status quo.
“Nwabali has done well for himself and the Super Eagles. When you compare him to Vincent Enyeama, you see that both have represented the country with excellence. Nwabali has shown confidence and focus, but there’s still room for improvement.
It’s just a matter of time before Nwabali gets to that level. He has what it takes to succeed if he keeps improving,” the 57-year-old said in quotes revealed by Sports Ration.
Nwabali’s display at the AFCON 2023 tournament saw him linked with clubs in Europe and the Middle East, but he opted to stay in the South African League, penning a new three-year deal with the Chilli Boys.
With Nigeria’s qualification to the AFCON 2025 competition in Morocco, Nwabali has another opportunity to write his name on the history stones of Nigerian football.
