Jalen Hurts talks about “having great moments” with Nick Sirianni during the Eagles’ bye week
The Eagles are back at practice preparing for the Browns and quarterback Jalen Hurts spoke to reporters on Wednesday. The QB finally opened up a bit about the state of his relationship with head coach Nick Sirianni.
Hurts talked a bit about his bye week, explaining that he took some personal time, but then also did a lot of work with his coaches and with Sirianni.
“Having great moments with Nick [Sirianni].”
He noted that this was probably one of the more efficient bye weeks he’s had in his career. Despite only having four weeks of film to review, they were able to talk through some things and build.
“We’re the two leaders of the team. I’m happy and fortunate that we were able to come together in harmony and have the same goal in mind in trying to get this thing right.
I’ve got a ton of confidence in him, a ton of confidence in what he brings, and everything he’s been able to accomplish, and just continue to press on on that.
Everybody goes through different moments, everybody experiences adversity, but we’ve experienced different levels of adversity together and we’re excited for what’s to come.”
On bye week assessments
“I think it starts with me, in terms of playing clean football. You know, touch the ball every play, there’s a ton of responsibility in that, and I love the position because of that.”
Hurts was later asked about how he’s approached playing clean football and eliminating turnovers, and he noted it’s all in the details.
“Coach Sirianni talked about the details today, and I think that’s what it comes down to. From timing, to communication, everyone being on the same page on the field, in terms of what play is called and how we execute that play, defining it, alleviating any of the grey in everything and saying, ‘This is exactly what we’re doing on this.’
With the talent we have, letting the talent take over when it’s time to.”
The QB also talked about how it’s important to start games fast, which he noted is something that they’ve previously done pretty well. He admitted they haven’t been able to do that as much as they’ve wanted to this year, but he does feel like once they get going they’ll start rolling, they just have to do that earlier.
On the return of injured players
He admitted that it’s always good to have your guys out on the field, when asked about getting A.J. Brown, DeVonta Smith, and Lane Johnson back from injuries. Hurts noted that they trust everyone who is out on the field, but he did joke about seeing some familiar faces out there.
“But you know those guys bring a different level of impact with their presence on the field with what they’re able to do.”
The QB later talked about how their struggles early in the season were partly because they were learning a new system under Kellen Moore, and partly because they were missing pieces, but pointed out those two things likely affected each other.
