Jennifer Lopez Just Debuted a Manicure That’s Going to Be Huge in 2024

Less is more in the manicure department nowadays. There’s no better example of this than Jennifer Lopez, whose latest manicure was all about her natural nails…with a shimmering twist.

The “On the Floor” singer is right on trend. Now that we’ve seen milky nails at Chanel’s cruise 2024 show, there’s been an overall shift away from nail art and superlong nails. Just ask Lopez, our minimalist manicure pioneer: We’re going naked on our nail beds this year. Remember her American manicure? Exactly!

The look Lopez is wearing for the new year, however, is known as lip gloss nails. The manicure features a gorgeous and glossy effect, which is thanks to shimmering particles in the polish that catch the light. Lopez’s longtime manicurist, Tom Bachik, dubbed the look a “New Year’s celestial shimmer nude.” Executed on ballerina-shaped nails, this one is sure to catch on soon.

Ahead, see are our favorite parts of the look.

The shape: ballerina

The ballerina manicure was the most popular short nail shape on the red carpet at the Venice Film Festival last year. It got its name due to the fact that it adopts the same shape as traditional ballet shoes: straight at the tips, oval at the sides. As luxurious as it is discreet, it “fits in perfectly with the quiet-luxury aesthetic,” according to Lara Royo, brand manager at Mavala.

And since quiet luxury is taking over beauty in terms of hair, makeup, and nail styles, this comes as no surprise.

The color: transparent, with shineSuch is the case with the polish shade Jennifer Lopez chose too. “The key to pulling off this type of manicure is to choose a natural but high-shine nail color, and to take care of the cuticles and hands so that they always look perfect,” Royo continues. The result is a barely there effect which, at first glance, doesn’t appear glazed, simply very well tended to.
