Jennifer Love Hewitt’s ‘Sunset Lover’ Hair Will Make You Want to Go Red-on-Red This Summer

Jennifer Love Hewitt’s new red-on-red hair transformation lives up to the hype of its name.

Trust me, nothing makes you feel more silly than asking your hair colorist for “cinnamon-cookie-butter hair” and having them stare at you dead-eyed until you pull out a photo of Hailey Bieber’s brunette bob with caramel highlights and a subtle red undertone. And yet, I still think my stylist will know just what I mean when I go in next week asking for Hewitt’s “sunset-lover red.”

Hewitt recently traded in her own blonde highlights for a dynamic auburn overhaul, debuting her red-on-red makeover on Instagram on May 8. “I have wanted to be red for so long! @nikkilee901 crushed this color,” she captioned a selfie, tagging celebrity stylist Nikki Lee. “She named my color Sunset Lover🌅.”

Based on the snap—as well as more images and video shared on Lee’s Instagram—the colorist seemed to start with an auburn base before going in with a lighter, brassy copper-toned balayage. The result is a sun-catching, vibrant color that still looks natural on the 9-1-1 star.

Of course, Lee knows her way around the various shades of red. The celebrity hairstylist recently crafted Emma Roberts’s own red-hair transformation, giving the Scream Queens actor a “sunrise red” makeover with a more vibrant ginger base and gloss.

Of course, Lee’s clients aren’t the only A-listers going red for summer 2025. Back in March, Leighton Meester debuted a fresh, spicy ginger look after gradually lightening her deep brunette locks to an auburn shade a month prior. (Remember, lightening your hair will always require more patience and care than going from blonde to red like Roberts and Hewitt.)

But if you, like Jennifer Love Hewitt, have always wanted to take the plunge, consider this your sign to dive in—and double down with a red-on-red look for summer 2025.
