Jets have a Pro Bowl QB alternative to Justin Fields that NFL insider thinks could come into play
Justin Fields is getting $20 million a year, but these days, that’s not franchise quarterback money.
The New York Jets are committed to Fields for two seasons, sort of. But if there’s a better option, they could still take it.
Pro Football Talk’s Mike Florio thinks we might see that develop sooner rather than later.
“It’s entirely possible it’s Tyrod Taylor who ends up being the quarterback of the Jets at some point this year,” Florio said.
Taylor led a different AFC East team, the Buffalo Bills, to the playoffs. He was a solid three-year starter in Buffalo but has been mostly a backup since.
There’s an element of simplicity to Taylor’s game that Fields still hasn’t shown in his NFL career. With Taylor, you know you’re getting a steady player. Fields feels more boom or bust.

Given that Fields’ contract isn’t extreme, the Jets will still be looking for a long-term answer at QB.
So if they decide partway through this season that Taylor is the route to the playoffs, the Jets shouldn’t hesitate to make the switch.
