In 2017, ahead of his UFC 213 fight against Anthony Pettis, Jim Miller spoke to Ariel Helwani in an interview that touched upon the origins of the A-10 nickname. In the video shared by the MMA Fighting account on YouTube, Helwani begins the interview by inquiring if UFC 213 would be the first time Miller would be introduced with a nickname, to which Miller responded by stating that is true.

Helwani further questioned the fighter by asking, “What is the nickname? Where did this come from?”. Miller responded by revealing that, “A-10, you know, and I’ve joked about like coming out as ‘The Warthog here and there, but it was always kind of because of the A-10 Warthog…”

The A-10 Warthog is the nickname of the Fairchild Republic A-10 Thunderbolt II, a close air support attack plane in service with the USAF (United States Airforce) since 1976. The UFC fighter further explained the reasoning behind choosing the moniker of the plane as his own by revealing, “It’s kind of my style, you know, it’s not the prettiest plane in the air but it gets the job done.”

He also confessed that he came up with the name on his own, as Miller felt his real name is, “a little bit vanilla” for branding and marketing a UFC fighter. Therefore, just as the A-10 Warthog is renowned for its reliability and ability to get the job done, Miller also prides himself on his tenacity and resilience inside the Octagon.

Going into his clash at UFC 300, ‘A-10’ recently revealed why he was worried about the promotion’s pick for his opponent on the card!

Miller reveals concerns with “cursed” UFC 300 matchup UFC veteran Jim Miller found himself in a familiar yet hesitant position when he was presented with the opportunity to face Bobby Green at UFC 300. Scheduled to take place on April 13 at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, this matchup carries with it a history fraught with cancellations and disappointments.

The two men were scheduled to clash 3 times in the past, but the fight fell through all 3 times. In April 2014, Green withdrew due to injury, in 2021 due to a failed weigh-in attempt, and in 2022 after failing a drug test.

Shedding light upon this,  in a recent interview with MMA Today, Miller stated, “…Dana is like, ‘We’re trying to figure out an opponent for 300. What about Bobby Green?’ My first initial reaction was like, ‘Ah, come on!’ Don’t give me the hiccups and potentially the missed opportunity to fight on 300 because maybe this fight is cursed – who knows?”

But emphasizing his longstanding approach to accepting any challenge, Miller asserted, “The reason I’m Jim ‘F*cking’ Miller is because I don’t say no.” This statement encapsulates Miller’s ethos as a fighter, showcasing his unwavering determination and willingness to face any opponent, regardless of past setbacks.

As the date for UFC 300 approaches, fans eagerly anticipate whether this fourth attempt at booking the Miller-Green matchup will finally come to fruition or whether fate will intervene once again!
