Joe Biden drops out of presidential race: Cardi B, Jon Stewart and more celebs react
President Joe Biden surprised the nation when he announced Sunday that he was dropping out of the 2024 presidential race against Donald Trump.
âIt has been the greatest honor of my life to serve as your President,â the 81-year-old wrote in a statement.
âAnd while it has been my intention to seek reelection, I believe it is in the best interest of my party and the country for me to stand down and to focus solely on fulfilling my duties as President for the remainder of my term.â

In a follow-up statement, Biden endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris as the Democratic presidential nominee.
Celebrities swiftly responded to the news, with âStar Trekâ actor George Takei writing on X, âI want to honor our President @JoeBiden. He has served our nation admirably for decades, he is a decent honorable man, a hugely successful president, and a patriot. Now let us unite behind @KamalaHarris and defeat Donald Trump in November!â

Trump, 78, shared his thoughts on Truth Social, writing in part, âCrooked Joe Biden was not fit to run for President, and is certainly not fit to serve â And never was!â

Meanwhile, rapper Cardi B shared excitement over the possibility that Harris, 59, might be on the ballot.
