Joe Gomez ‘makes decision’ on Liverpool future following Newcastle interest
Liverpool defender Joe Gomez reportedly makes a decision over his future following interest from Newcastle United.
Liverpool defender Joe Gomez is reportedly determined to remain at Anfield despite talk of a potential move to Newcastle United.
The 27-year-old has made 224 competitive appearances for Liverpool since joining the club from Charlton Athletic in the summer of 2015.
Last season, Gomez made 51 appearances across all competitions, with his performances proving enough to earn him a spot in England’s Euro 2024 squad.
Despite being under contract until June 2027, Gomez has emerged as a potential target for Newcastle, Aston Villa, West Ham United, Brentford and Crystal Palace.
Newcastle were supposedly willing to pay £45m to sign Gomez earlier this summer in a deal which would have seen Anthony Gordon move in the opposite direction for £75m.

Gomez keen to remain at Anfield
The Magpies were considering the proposal to meet the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability Rules, but they opted to offload Yankuba Minteh and Elliot Anderson.
While Gomez never spoke to Newcastle over a potential move, there has been speculation that he could be open to a departure.
However, according to The Times, Gomez remains committed to Liverpool and is focusing on the new Premier League season.
The England international is hoping to establish himself as a key player under the tutelage of new Liverpool manager Arne Slot.

Gomez remains a valuable for Liverpool
Although he has been linked with a move away, Gomez remains a valuable member of the Liverpool squad due to his ability to slot in seamlessly across the backline.
Last season, Gomez played in both full-back positions under Jurgen Klopp as well as operating as a central defender on occasions.
Slot can currently call upon Virgil van Dijk, Ibrahima Konate, Jarell Quansah and Gomez as his four main central defensive options.
The Dutchman has also used Nat Phillips and Sepp van den Berg in pre-season, but it remains to be seen whether they will stay at Anfield for the 2024-25 campaign.
