Jon Jones could become undefeated and get his UFC loss overturned ahead of UFC 309 as he is backed by CSAC Director

With Jon Jones’ UFC return just over a week away, the consensus greatest fighter of all time could get a big boost as his lone UFC loss could be overturned.

This past weekend’s event in Edmonton marked the first since the UFC announced new rule changes earlier this year.

The new rules that came into effect on November 1st include the removal of the 12-6 downward elbow rule, as well as unifying what deems an opponent as ‘downed’.

Of course, Jon Jones‘ lone MMA loss came as a disqualification when he used the 12-6 elbow technique to open up Matt Hamill in 2009.

Not only that but the heavyweight champion could be given a big boost, as the Director of the California State Athletic Commission, Andy Foster, has backed the overturning of Jones’ lone loss.

For several years, UFC CEO Dana White has claimed that he has fought tooth and nail to get Jones’ loss overturned, blaming it on former referee, Steve Mazzagatti.

“The rule is what it was then, it’s different now,” Foster said on The Ariel Helwani Show.

“It would be hard to go back. I’d actually be supportive of getting rid of that but it’s not my decision. I didn’t like the way it was enforced back then, but that’s 14 years ago.

“At the time, I thought there were other ways you could handle that situation rather than flat-out giving the guy a loss. Disqualification should be the last resort a referee goes to,” Foster continued.

JONES RESPONDS: Jon Jones issues hilarious response after NBA superstar claimed he could beat ‘Bones’ in an MMA fightJon Jones ‘feeling more alive than ever’ as he sends heartfelt messageAlthough the former UFC light heavyweight champion and current heavyweight champion hasn’t officially confirmed he will retire after his UFC 309 fight, he has heavily hinted at it.

Current interim champion, Tom Aspinall, remains hopeful that the 37-year-old will decide to stick around, however, all things are pointing to both Jones and Miocic retiring following their upcoming fight.

Ahead of what is potentially his final fight inside the UFC Octagon, Jones has admitted that he is feeling ‘more alive than ever’, despite his age.

“I feel more alive than ever right now. Even after all these years, the flood of emotions I experience after finishing another training camp, right before a fight, still amazes me. The energy, the anticipation – it’s overwhelming but also incredibly fulfilling,” Jones stated in a post on Instagram.

“More than anything, I’m grateful. Grateful to everyone who’s put their time and effort into this journey. We are better together, and I’m so blessed to have one of the strongest teams in Mixed Martial Arts history.

“I can’t wait to step out there and make you all proud once again. It’s almost time,” Jones finished.
