Jon Jones made a false equivalence between himself and Tom Brady, and got roasted for it
Friday was one of those days when UFC heavyweight champion Jon Jones randomly decides to go on X and respond to fans. As has been the case a lot lately, the topic du joir – the one that really fires people up – is Jones’ continued insistence that defending his title against former champ Stipe Miocic rather than unify with interim champ Tom Aspinall is the way to go at this stage of his career.
To Jones, Miocic represents the legacy fight that cements himself as the undisputed MMA GOAT when, in reality, it doesn’t because Miocic, at 42, is well past his prime and has been inactive since a knockout loss more than three years ago. A win simply will fall flat in a way that Jones either doesn’t realize or doesn’t care to.
But Jones is steadfast in his belief otherwise and whenever enough people call for him to fight an actual threat in 31-year-old Aspinall and unify the belts, which is the right thing to do anyway, Jones can’t help but defend himself on X.
On Friday, Jones made a curious choice to compare himself to seven-time Super Bowl winning quarterback Tom Brady after someone suggested he fight both Miocic and Aspinall.
“Hey Tom Brady, you still look healthy, give us two more Super Bowls and I’ll personally be more impressed by your career!” 👍 https://t.co/cnswlzJGVB

“Hey Tom Brady, you still look healthy, give us two more Super Bowls and I’ll personally be more impressed by your career!”
Yeah, that comparison doesn’t quite hit the way Jones thinks it does, especially since Brady, 46, is no longer an active player after retiring following the 2022 NFL season. There are other reasons it’s ridiculous, and fans roasted Jones on X for even going there.
‘Duty and responsibility to fight the best’
False equivalence. You are the champion of the Hw division. It’s your duty and responsibility to fight the best contenders. Especially interim champs. Vacate If you want your gimmick fights

‘Brady beat Mahomes in the Super Bowl’
Brady beat Mahomes in the Super bowl at 40+. I don’t think this hits like you think it does

Retirement or not?
You literally went on record saying you were interested in fighting Alex Pereira after Stipe Miocic and now ur back into talking about retirement, make up ur mind bruh 🤦♂️

‘A steroid cheat and openly ducking’
calling yourself the goat while being a steroid cheat and openly ducking any real competition is certainly a decision

‘Wasted your entire prime’
Bro outside of 2019 you havent fought more than once a year since you were 26. Literally wasted your entire prime being suspended or sitting around “training” for this old man. Tom Brady won 4 more suoer bowls after he turned 30. Terrible comparison

A different Brady comparison
No this is like Tom Brady going to play amateur Football and then claiming this move is the best for his career

‘A true GOAT turns down no competition’
Not comparable. A true GOAT turns down no competition and constantly wants prove he’s the best, not live through past accomplishments. You’ve got gas left in the tank and we all know it brotha

Michael Jordan enters the conversation
Michael Jordan won 3 @NBA finals left to play baseball and came back and won 3 more finals. What is your excuse⁉️
You fight every other year and have been very inactive. You put all this work to go into heavyweight for nothing pretty much.
I respect you, but you gotta go out…

Another proper Brady comparison
Brady didn’t prevent the Super Bowl from being contested for 616 days.

Straight to the point about Brady
Well, he retired so people would stop saying that.

‘In what world …’
brother in what world are a 45 year old stipe and interim champ tom anywhere close to super bowl victories 😭
